Objectives of Environment Science

 The chief objective of environmental education is that individual and social groups should acquire awareness and knowledge, develop attitudes, skills and abilities and participate in solving real-life environmental problems. The perspective should be integrated, inter-disciplinary and holistic in character. The lay public in rural, tribal, slum and urban areas, women and students and teachers in schools, colleges and universities as well as planners and decision policy makers.

Cognitive Domain: Cognitive domain of environmental education refers to process of acquiring environmental knowledge by reasoning or through senses. The objectives of cognitive domain are follows:
v         1.       To help acquire knowledge of immediate environment.
          2.       To help acquire knowledge of the environment beyond the immediate environment including distant environment.
           3.       To help understand the biotic and abiotic environment.
        4.       To understand the effect of population explosion and unplanned resource utilization on the future earth.
          5.       To evaluate the utilization of physical and human resources and suggest remedial measures.
      6.       To examine the trends in the growth of population and interrupt for the socjo-economic development of the country.
       7.       To help diagnose the different causes of environmental population and to suggest remedial measures.
         8.       To help develop observational skills and notice details usually not seen untrained eyes.
         9.       To help develop skills required for making discriminations in form, shape, habits and habitats.
        10.   To develop ability to draw unbiased inferences aims conclusions.
        11.   To help develop ability to draw unbiased inferences and conclusions.
         12.   To help diagnose the cause of social tensions and to suggest methods for avoiding them.


Affective Domain: Affective domain of environmental Studies encourages the development of feeling of fondness or love fort the nation. The objectives of affective domain are as follows:
            1.       To help acquire interest in the flora and fauna of the near and also distant environment.
            2.       To help evince interest in the people and problems of community and society.
            3.       To show tolerance towards different states, races, religion and culture.
            4.       TO appreciate the gift of nature.
            5.       To love the neighbours and value mankind as a whole.


            6.       To value quality, liberty, fraternity and justice.
            7.       To value the cleanliness and purity of our environment.
Psychomotor Domain: Psychomotor domain of environmental studies encourages man to participate in protection, conservation and improvement of the environment. The objectives of the psychomotor are as follows:
         1.       To participate in a forestation programmes.
         2.       TO participate in programmes aimed at minimizing air water and noise pollution.
         3.       To participate in programmes aimed at preventing soil erosions.
         4.       To participate in programmes aimed at eliminating food contamination and adulteration.
         5.       To participate in cleaning neighborhood.
        6.       To participate in urban and rural planning and execution programmers, such as installation of gobar gas plants, solar heaters etc.

    Explain the Importance of Environment Science

Environment studies is important because it affects the economy and well being of human society. Man’s Endeavor in solving the world’s problem of making a better use of natural resources will largely depend upon advances in the field. Environment studies are demonstrating how man can derive material benefits from environment without causing any damage to it. Thus, environment education helps in:
        1.       Creating a healthy environment  in the society.
       2.       Creating and increasing the awareness of and sensitivity to the total environment and its allied problems.
       3.       Acquiring variety of experiences and acquiring a basic understanding of the environment and its associated problems.
      4.       Acquiring skills for identifying and solving environmental problems like global warming, depletion of ozone layer, dwindling forests, reducing energy resources etc.
      5.       Town planning, improving public health, deciding location of industries, providing clean drinking water and in maintaining hygienic living surroundings.
      6.       Developing problem solving approach for local environment like implementing solid waste management impact of mining and hydroelectric projects.
       7.       Acquiring set of values and feelings of concern for the environment and the motivation for active participation in environment improvement and protection.
 According to Dr. Pritchard (from Report of UNESCO biosphere Conference) the following are the different groups of people whom environment studies helps in various ways for creating a healthy environment. For example, environment education helps the
       1.       Biologists, geographers, geologists, agricultural and forest scientists, farmers and foresters who embark on career on the earth and life sciences.
       2.       Planners, land scope designers, architects, civil engineers who deal with the design, construction and control of projects affecting the environment.
      3.       Statesman, public servants and other leaders to formulate policies keeping in view of the far reaching affect on environment.
      4.       Physicists, chemists and technologists to conduct research without affecting the environmental balance.
    5.       People, who in future will bear the task of interpreting knowledge to young people as educationalists,.
     6.       People, who without any direct professional involvement from a collective voice which will influence other dignitaries of the above categories.
